Brief Review: Most of us have seen or heard about the movie Illusionist. The Prestige (also from the makers of Illusionist), is another thriller about 19th-century stage magicians with secrets, advances far beyond its recent predecessor. The movie picks up slow but it has you riveted to your seat. This surprise packed thriller speaks well of human curiosity and envy.
The story is about 2 upcoming magicians, one time colleagues, who turn into arch rivals. They despise each other and at the same time are awed by each other’s successes and innovative tricks. The race to be stardom ends up in the quest to create a seemingly impossible feat -- "teleporting" from one side of the stage to the other in a manner that confounds explanation. There’s a touch of Physics with Tesla and Edison being part of the script, with David Bowie playing the role of Tesla. The Prestige utilizes a complex editing style, going back and forth between eras to create a cinematic sequence of revelation and deception. I think it is a great watch but before you start shut off all your phones and laptops. This one deserves all your attention.
