Encourage kids to blog

I have been thinking about this for a while, but never got around to completing my thoughts on it, but I think I have found the perfect challenge for the kids that will motivate them to put their “thoughts on paper” and at the same time learn the tech part of things.

Create a monitor that is visible in the blog header, which will track the ratio of the number of words that are added by adults to the number of words added by kids in a given time period or per every few articles or comments, etc. We need to put a mechanism in place to identify each comment/article written by the kids either through a special signature or specific tag.

We can create a special thread or category where topics that are relevant for the kids can be added on a monthly or biweekly basis. Topics must be such that they will push their creative and intellectual sides, maybe require them to do some independent or guided research. Kids can even document their weekly escapades at school or event copy the research they did for a school assignment or project.

What do you gals and guys think?

  1. Nice thought Jaideep. I am with you on the kids to encourage writing more 🙂

  2. Nice thought. To start with we will need to see how much the kids contribute before venturing further. 🙂

We can start a new category in the Blog Posts “Young Authors” and kids can start posting using that category. Once we have momentum then we can do something more for the kids.

The category “Young Authors” is now created.

  3. We will post a topic “What did you do during the long weekend?” after this long weekend to which the kids should only reply.

The parents can create kids login and assign a funny cartoon character with the loginid.

  4. Prashant,
I don’t see Young Authors category..

  5. When you goto write an article its there at the very bottom.

  6. Prashant,
