Building a Digital Music Library

Recently I have started to build my Hindi Music Library via iTunes. I have bought a Tape adaptor and play most of my songs in car via ipod thru the tape adaptor.

I plan to modify some of the meta information associated with a song and use the iTunes smart playlists feature to automatically build my playlist based on whether i label the song as “soft”, “fast”, “2009”, “1980”, etc. I plan to label the song its year, movie, type of song (soft, fast, etc).

Has anyone built a digital organized library like this? If so what criteria have you used to organize your music files.

On the song front, I am re-discovering some of the good old songs based on shows like “Lil Champs”, “Dance India Dance”, other performances on youtube, facebook links by friends, etc. Sometimes you may not realize the worthiness of a song until you hear it in a specific context. That is what is happening to me. :-). I heard the song “Tu Aashiqui Hai” (Movie: Jhankaar beats) in Lil Champs sung by a young child and it appealed to me. I decided to learn it and sing it in camping. 🙂

2 Comments:

  1. I mostly use Album, artist, composer. Other criteria are similar to what you mentioned however I use:
    party, lounge, etc.

  2. And after you guys are done with all the hard work, I can start calling my libraries : “Prashant”, “Rohit”, “Leena”, etc. 🙂
